Circulation: Students may check out up to 2 items at a time.  This may be a mix of books/1 audio-book/magazines. Collection: Over 20,000 books, audio-books, and magazines are available for students and teachers to use. Computers: 8 student stations are available.  Students must have a signed AUP on file before access is given. Fines: None are charged.  If an item is lost, the student will pay the original cost of the item.  This can range from $3.00 to $50.00 Length of loan period: 3 weeks for books and audio-books, 1 week for magazines. Media Center Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Ms. Sarah Detenber (ext. 303)After-school peer tutoring is available on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00. Tutors from the National Honor Society and 8th grade volunteers provide assistance with homework or help students study for tests. This is a great way to keep up with homework and keep your grades up. In order to participate, you need a permission form from your parents. These are available from your team leader or may be obtained in the front office. Transportation is not available. You must have your own transportation home in the afternoon so your ride must be here at 4:00 p.m.

Mrs. Sarah Detenber (ext 303)Builders Club is a service club sponsored by Kiwanis for middle school students. The Objects of Builders Club are: to develop leadership potential, to provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community, to foster the development of strong moral character, and to encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation. Service projects in the past have included raising money for Riley Hospital and the Red Cross by holding dances and Hat Days. Anyone attending RVMS is welcome to join. Meetings are from 3 to 4 p.m. in Mr. Kraft’s classroom, C-124 of the Media Center. Your ride home must be here at 4 p.m.
New to River Valley. This year is open only to selected pre-selected 6th grade students. Students meet M-Th from 3 to 5 p.m. in Mrs. Puryear’s classroom.
Mrs. ZurlageFriday November 15th and Saturday November 16thReserved tickets are $4 for students, $6 for adults. General admission tickets are $8 at the door.Students participating in the Fall Musical are selected through an audition process. Practices are held after school and a schedule is provided for participants. This Fall’s musical is Alice in Wonderland, Jr.
Mr. Anthony Branch (ext. 225)Open to minority male students, the goal of the club is to motivate improved grades, increase academic potential, polish social and business etiquette, and develop social and career goals. It meets every three weeks on Thursday mornings in the cafeteria from 8:15 to 8:35 a.m.
Sponsors: Mr. Scott Rolfs (ext. 336)GeoBee Club will start in October with the qualifying test. Club Meetings for those who meet the test cutoff will begin meeting in November. The club will meet on either Tuesday or Thursday, depending on the participants and the sponsor. Winner of the school National Geographic Bee will participate at the state level.
National Junior Honor Society is the leader among organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service. Inductions into the National Junior Honor Society take place at the end of a students 7th or 8th grade academic school year.
Mrs. DetenberTutors are selected for Thursday after school tutoring through teacher recommendation. Students needing assistance with their assignments need to have a signed parent permission slip (available in the front office. Peer Tutoring takes place on Thursday afternoon from 3-4.
Ms. Elizabeth Moss (ext 309)Student Council is a service learning group dedicated to making our school a better environment for all. We stress the importance of being a leader and role model for others. We are involved in helping the community by having a canned food drive in November, a book drive in March, assisting the office during conferences and Grandparents Day, and giving tours during the various open houses throughout the year. To become a member of student council, a student is elected by his/her peers. Student Council gives student a chance to be involved and have a voice at River Valley. Study Table for Athletes Mrs. Stephanie Doss Held after school on Tuesday and Thursday’s from 3 to 4 p.m. in Mrs. Doss’ classrooms. Students are recommended by their coaches and classroom teachers for participation.
Mrs. Christa Hammack (ext. 404)The Yearbook Staff has the important job of creating each year’s yearbook. The staff chooses the yearbook cover and then creates each page of the yearbook using online technology. Staff members take many of the pictures used in the yearbook. Meetings are held once a week after school. Any 8th grader may fill out an application to become a member of the yearbook staff. Each applicant must be recommended by their 7th and 8th grade teachers. The number of student staff members varies from eight to ten students.
