Picasso on a Pole

Fifth grade students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary were invited by the City of Jeffersonville to participate in designing Picasso on a Pole light fixtures for the new Arts District near Spring Street in Jeffersonville.

A power point presentation was given by Dawn Spyker, the city’s Art Facilitator, in October and the students spent the month of November working on their designs with art teacher, Cathy Gruninger. Students produced a 2D drawing of their light pole and then made a 3D model showing a Picasso-esque face. Thirteen winners were selected and these designs will be fabricated into metal pieces that will be adhered to the poles.

Winners will have a field trip in the spring to help make a couple of their metal pieces. Congratulations to Kaya Arnold, Anna Stewart, Elizabeth Shearer, Andrea Campbell, Avani Doogarsingh, Rohan Bhatt, Nia Arnold, Cheyenne Ellis, Alliyah Collins, Morgan Robinson, Aurora Partin and Charles Singleton on their winning designs! We can’t wait to see these Picasso on a Pole in the area around the Vintage Fire Museum.
