Important Message from GCCS

Early this morning, a district official was notified about a concerning social media post that was being transmitted between River Valley Middle School and Jeffersonville High School students . The district has worked with the Jeffersonville Police Department and at this point, we do not have evidence that there is any credible threat to our schools. Our School Resource Officers have been briefed about the situation and both schools will have additional officers present today.

We encourage our parents to speak with their child about the consequences of sharing and spreading false information and/or threats online. If a concerning image and/or threat is received by a student or parent, it should be reported to local authorities or district officials immediately.  It’s imperative that our stakeholders work together to maintain a safe environment for our students and staff. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.

UPDATE as of 8:45AM

The Jeffersonville Police Department provided the following update. “Overnight, the Jeffersonville Police Department received a report of a concerning post on social media. Following the report, the Jeffersonville Police Department Detective Division immediately began investigating the post and is attempting to track the post to its origin. The post did not contain a direct threat to any school in the Southern Indiana area and information indicates this post may have originated in the western United States. We have made contact with law enforcement in this out-of-state school district who confirmed they were already aware of the post’s content.”

As stated in our original message, the district encourages parents to speak with their child about the consequences of sharing and spreading false information and/or threats online. If a concerning image and/or threat is received by a student or parent, it should be reported to local authorities or district officials immediately. Thank you for your patience as we worked through this morning’s situation. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.
