The Greater Clark County Schools Board of Trustees voted unanimously (7-0) this evening to select Mr. Mark Laughner as the next Superintendent of Schools for the district. Contract terms for Mr. Laughner include a three-year contract with a base salary of $155,000. He has served as the Interim-Superintendent since January 22, 2019.
The hiring of Mr. Laughner follows a search process by the district which was guided by a university placement team consisting of representatives from Indiana University, Indiana State University, Purdue University and Ball State University. The school board reviewed applications and supporting documentation then conducted extensive interviews. As part of the process, the school board also asked for feedback from stakeholders within the district through facilitation of surveys. The school board heard from staff, parents and community members about their desired qualities and characteristics for the next Superintendent, as well as thoughts on district strengths and challenges. School board president Katie Hutchinson stated, “The school board wishes to thank the members of our community, our parents and staff for taking the time to complete their respective survey. Hiring a Superintendent is one of the most important jobs placed upon a school board, so obtaining feedback from our stakeholders was vital to the process.”
Laughner stated, “I am honored to have been chosen to lead the district that has been my home for the last fourteen years. I look forward to working collaboratively with our students, parents, staff and community as we continue to move our district forward in a positive direction.”
